Coalition serves a 24 county region (Bailey, Borden, Castro, Cochran, Cottle, Crosby, Dawson, Dickens, Floyd, Gaines, Garza, Hale, Hockley, Howard, Kent, King, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Mitchell, Motley, Scurry, Terry, and Yoakum)

Mission Statement:

To reduce injuries and injury-related costs throughout the South Plains by working cooperatively with all Coalition partners and by utilizing expanded data sources, expanded partnerships, citizen involvement and input, and integrated and comprehensive injury control systems.

Coalition Representation Background: (Please describe the membership of your coalition)

The coalition has 17-18 hospitals represented as part of its membership. EMS providers, law enforcement, and community volunteers are also represented. Rural areas in the geographic boundary are targeted. The Coalition works with the Regional Area Council (RAC) when coordinating joint activities.

Injury/Fatality Data Sources:

Trauma registry, Department of Public Safety data, ACTS

Coalition encourages communities to use ACTS. Trauma tams have completed ACTS survey in Lubbock County

Public Information and Education and Other Program Activities:

  • Coalition provides support and resources to coalitions in a 24 county area. Resources include publications, brochures and videos and volunteers time.
  • Presentations to schools, community groups, service organizations are conducted by coalition members on various community countermeasures such as drunk driving prevention, aggressive driving, speed related issues and other topics that are motor vehicle related.
  • Participate in health and safety fairs throughout the region.
  • Participate in/co-sponsor CPS Checkup events throughout the region.


Program Outcome Measurements: (Coalition Successes - Describe successful traffic safety programming and activities which can include anecdotal statements.)

Most impactful activities to date have been the CPS Checkup events.

Evaluation Tool: (Describe the evaluation tool(s) used to measure change. (i.e. survey design, pre/post community traffic measurements, observational surveys, tests, questionnaires, focus group, user interface rating tool or evaluation report)

Monitoring of data through trauma registry and ACTS system. Also evaluations are performed annually on process for CPS checkup events and health and safety fairs have individual evaluations. Also each presentation is provided an evaluation tool for participants.
