Mission Statement:

To bring the City of Dallas to a driver friendly environment to reduce wrecks, deaths, injuries and property damage.

Coalition Representation Background: (Please describe the membership of your coalition)

Twelve coalitions are represented – two of the twelve are traffic safety and work with neighborhoods. The other coalitions facilitate other injury prevention programs.

The coalition is sponsored by five hospitals --

Parkland, Baylor, Presbyterian, Methodist and Children’s Hospital

The 25 members of the coalition represent --

  • Texas Transportation Institute
  • Texas Department of Transportation
  • Dallas Sheriff’s Department
  • Texas Instruments
  • MADD

Injury/Fatality Data Sources:

The coalition is fortunate to have a staff person who reviews various data sources (hospital, law enforcement, EMS and the Medical Examiner’s Office).

Public Information and Education and Other Program Activities:

  • Child Car Seat Inspection Programs
  • Safety Summit – one day in the Fall and ½ day in the Spring
  • Click it or Ticket
  • Intersection Project – high crash locations have been identified. Coalition is seeking funding for engineering improvements.

Program Outcome Measurements: (Coalition Successes - Describe successful traffic safety programming and activities which can include anecdotal statements.)

Child safety seat observation surveys are ongoing. The observation surveys are scientific and conducted by the Epidemiology Section at the hospital. Over a six year period, the increase in child safety seat usage rates increased from 17% to over 80%.
