Welcome to Texas Townsafety
The Safe Community Strategy

The Texas Cooperative Extension, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation, is committed to building a safer Texas. Our approach is the Safe Community model. This process establishes a coalition of key stakeholders to assess their crash, trauma and other traffic data sources. Supported by the data findings, a Safe Community integrates countermeasures to reduce serious traffic injuries and fatalities. The Assessing Community Traffic Safety (ACTS) is a crash data assessment tool available to Texas Safe Communities to identify their county crash data. It also contains successfully demonstrated Texas traffic safety programs. ACTS provides an engaging method to recruit new Safe Community partners, which are essential in addressing highway safety and injury prevention problems. A Safe Community coalition coordinates citizens, resources and education to decrease the community’s traffic safety problems and supports the sustainability of this group.
